Pigeon River 2000

The Pigeon River white water rafting expeditions run from the North Carolina / Tennessee State line north for about 1.5 miles. We decided to go down the Pigeon this year because it was the first year that Nantahala Outdoor Center (
http://www.noc.com) has been running on the Pigeon River. The Pigeon River is a class III-IV river.
Leslie took a second to take a picture of the river over the shoulders of our raft team mates.
If you have ever wondered what white water looks like as you are going down the river, take a look over Scott's shoulder
This rapid has a rock the size of a VW bus under it. The water flows over the top of it and then falls down creating a churn. Churns are places where the water will tend to trap a raft if you are not strong paddlers. This is the only class IV rapid on the Pigeon River. The rest of the river is class II and III.
